CHILD'S CRY
WAS HE JUST A LITTLE BOY LOST - OR THE VICTIM OF ABUSE?
A social worker struggles to win the trust of a little boy whom she believes has been the victim of sexual abuse in this chilling drama, starring LINDSAY WAGNER (The Bionic Woman) and PETER COYOTE (Jagged Edge).Dedicated but overburdened social worker Joanne Van Buren (Wagner) can do without yet another problematic case especially that of 6-year-old Eric Townsend. The little boy has been found sleeping rough at the local zoo and has been taken into care. Eric is shy and withdrawn, but as Joanne begins to work with him to gain his confidence, she notices that he is fearful of his father, Matt (Coyote).
This has resonances for Joanne, who had a strained relationship with her own father, and she begins to project her experiences onto the case. She even suspects that Erics fear may derive from sexual abuse suffered at his fathers hands.
But how would a boy as young and fragile as Eric cope with the trauma of giving evidence in open court, even if it was the only way to nail Matt Townsend for his suspected horrific crimes?
CHILDS CRY did indeed mark a change in the law, in that a childs testimony in court is now allowed via a CCTV link. It also features a remarkable performance as Erik from TALIESIN JAFFE (Hail to the Chief, Shes the Sheriff), who won a Young Artist Award.
CHILDS CRY was originally to have starred KATE JACKSON (TVs Charlies Angels), but she had to withdraw due to other commitments; she still serves as the films executive producer.
The director and writer is GILBERT CATES, who has received several Emmy Award nominations (and one win) for staging numerous Oscars presentation ceremonies.
